Why is Linen bedding Trending and worth the extra cost?[7 Reasons Explained]

Spread the love

Linen bedding is a big trend in home decor. I have seen so many influencers unpacking their gorgeous linen bedding. But before you say that someone might be easily influenced, think twice. Linen bedding isn’t anything new; it’s been around for ages. It is only now that consumers are gaining consciousness and investing in long-lasting products to avoid overconsumption.

Interested to find out more? In this article, I go through the advantages of linen and other considerations. You’ll learn that linen no longer has a bad name for being prone to wrinkles.

What is Linen?

Linen is made from the flax plant. It has a unique texture and is very breathable. The porous surface lets air flow through, which is great for hot nights. Linen feels a bit rough and coarse at first, but that’s part of its charm. It has a relaxed, laid-back look that I love. And that’s the trending aesthetic now!

Cotton, on the other hand, is soft and natural. It’s breathable and commonly used in bedding. Plus, it is affordable. Polyester is man-made. While it’s easy to maintain and doesn’t wrinkle, it’s not breathable like cotton or linen. I find it less comfortable, especially during warm nights.

Why is linen bedding more expensive?

In a world where affordability is a priority, linen lost its presence. And it is easy to see why.the hefty price tag might turn many away. Polyester is a cheap fabric with various finishes. It fits many different styles, hence the popularity.

However, polyester fabrics tend to pile and lose their color over time. And this isn’t the thing with linen.

But why is linen so expensive? This can be justified by the different manufacturing processes. Producing linen bedding is a labor intensive and time consuming process. It starts with harvesting the linen fibers, a process that is very difficult because the flax stalks get in the way.

And did you know that the flax plant is mainly grown in Europe? The transportation cost further adds up to the price.

If you ask me, I would refer to this as an investment rather than a splurge. Why? Because the long lifespan will pay off in the long run. You don’t have to buy new bedding frequently, so you will end up saving money.

What are the benefits of linen bedding?

Breathability

One of the biggest benefits of linen bedding is its breathability. If you’ve ever worn a linen dress or shirt, you know what I am talking about.

Linen has a porous structure. This allows air to circulate freely through the fabric. It keeps you cool throughout the night, even during hot summer months. Unlike other fabrics that trap heat, linen naturally regulates your body temperature. Personally, I find this feature to be a game-changer. Especially during those warm nights when staying cool makes all the difference.

Durability

Another major advantage of linen is its durability. Linen fibers are incredibly strong and can withstand years of use without wearing down.

This fabric gets softer and more comfortable the more you wash it. That’s why the coarse texture shouldn’t scare you when you touch it in the store.

What starts off feeling slightly coarse evolves into a smooth texture over time. From my experience, investing in linen bedding means you’re buying something that lasts;both in terms of comfort and quality.

And did you know that linen’s lifespan is 3 to 5 years? If you take care of it properly, it will last even longer. Compared to cotton lifespan that ranges between 2 to 3 years, linen is the best value for the money.

Rustic charm

Linen’s texture has a natural charm that I absolutely love. The slightly wrinkled look adds a sense of effortless style to any bedroom. It’s perfect if you’re aiming for a laid-back aesthetic without trying too hard. For me, the casual elegance of linen bedding really elevates the overall vibe of the room, making it feel more inviting and warm. Plus it is available in gorgeous neutral colors to further enhance the aesthetics.

Quick drying

Linen is known for its moisture-wicking properties. It absorbs moisture quickly and dries just as fast, which helps keep your bedding fresh and dry throughout the night. Whether you sweat a lot or simply want a fabric that doesn’t hold onto dampness, linen is ideal. Personally, I’ve noticed that my linen sheets feel fresh even on the most humid nights. Plus they dry out quickly after washing, making laundry day much easier.

Hypoallergenic

Do you have sensitive skin or suffer from allergies? Linen is your go-to choice. It naturally repels dust mites and other allergens, ensuring a cleaner and healthier sleeping environment.

And did you know that you don’t have to use fabric softener to keep your linen bedding soft? The secret ingredient is right in your pantry. Baking soda does wonders in softening this natural fabric, which is a plus for people with sensitive skin.

Eco-friendly

Linen is also an environmentally friendly choice. It’s made from the flax plant, which requires less water and pesticides to grow compared to cotton. Linen is biodegradable, making it a sustainable option.

I appreciate that by choosing linen bedding, I’m making a more eco-conscious decision that aligns with my values of reducing environmental impact.

In addition, linen will last for years to come. This means less junk in the landfills.

Low maintenance

If you love low maintenance fabric, linen will become your best friend. It doesn’t require ironing, as its natural wrinkles are part of its charm. It’s also resistant to pilling and doesn’t lose its shape, so you don’t have to worry about your bedding looking worn out. On the other hand, you can find linen blends on the market. They incorporate other fabrics to make the linen less prone to wrinkling.

Also keeping it soft is so easy and cheap. All you have to do is throw some baking soda in the washer and your linen feels silky smooth.
